Das gesamte Werk “Die Mauer als Kondom” setzt sich mit Machtverhältnissen auseinander und deren Wirkungen in der Gesellschaft, vor allem in der schwulen Community, die unabhängige Wege zur Bekämpfung gegen die HIV-Pandemie innerhalb der DDR finden musste. Obwohl die Mauer dem Land tatsächlich als ein Kondom gedient hat, penetrierte das Virus diese Barriere trotzdem, und der betroffene Anteil der Bevölkerung wurde von seiner Regierung marginalisiert, diskriminiert und missachtet. Die Mauer als Kondom zielt darauf ab, eine Auffrischung zum Thema Begrenzung zu leisten und einen Blick in den Kampf der betroffenen Queer Community anzubieten, und kann als eine Ode an die Freiheit verstanden werden.

The entire work “Die Mauer als Kondom” deals with relationships of power and their effects on society, especially in the gay community, which had to find independent ways to fight the HIV pandemic within the GDR. Although the wall actually served the country as a condom, the virus still penetrated this barrier and the affected population was marginalised, discriminated against and disrespected by its government. The Wall as a Condom aims to provide a refresher on the issue of confinement and offer a glimpse into the struggles of the affected queer community, and can be understood as an ode to freedom.
